Commissions

If you are interested in commissioning a portrait, I would be more than happy to discuss your project without any obligation.

Getting started

Firstly, I like to find out a bit more about the subject(s), as well as who your portrait is intended for, to get a sense of what characteristics to bring out.

The next step is to take a look at some reference imagery and, together, decide which images will help truly capture your subject. Even though I work predominantly from one reference, it is important to see a range to get a sense of the subject’s character and features.

If you’re not sure you have the right image, I also offer a photography service at an additional cost in which I will come take reference pictures for you, would you prefer.

Deciding on the details

It might feel a bit daunting deciding all the details of your portrait: What size should I choose? Would head and shoulders or full body be best? How do I want it framed? These are all questions I will help you to answer during our consultation. Of course, my aim is to create something you will love and that works for you, your budget and your portrait’s eventual surroundings.

Creation

Depending on the scale, medium and complexity of the piece, portraits can take anything between 6 to 12 weeks to complete. Once I have achieved a stage I am happy with, I will send you a scan or photograph to make sure you are 100% happy with your final portrait before postage and payment are arranged.

All pencil portraits are sealed with fixative to avoid any smudging when handled, and oil paintings are left un-varnished. However, if you wish to have your painting varnished I would be more than happy to discuss this with you.

I do not offer a framing service, however I can happily recommend framing options that might best serve your portrait.
